The people in my office that WFH during covid go on and on about how many tasks they were able to accomplish at home that they can't do while at work...leaving more time to do stuff after work and on weekends....yes If I net the same amount I would gladly WFH for the extra time I get when I would be off.

know in the private sector some allowances are made for people working from home for utilities and internet etc...why do you think that wouldn't become the case for state workers WFH?

Well bc they didn’t get those allowances since Covid lol

I'm not sure you even comprehend the discussion at this point. Carry on while not working in your office

You think paying someone $79 a month for an internet reimbursement is the same cost as having office space for them

what is the company saving if that one office isn't being used in a building that has 50 offices?

The office space out networking and server group occupied was converted to a student study and support center 3 years ago. We will be in a rented office for now.

The state could divest those unused properties.

But this has nothing to do with productivity.

State and federal government workers are hard as hell to fire, so the easiest way to shrink the number of employees is to make them so miserable that they quit.

Look at DRP 1.0, 2.0 (the fork in the road) for fedgov. It's been a clisterfrick. Their goal is to shrink. The employees and the retirement benefits. The easiest way to do that is to make the employees tap out.

How much was the budget cut when this was outsourced or is it still funded by taxes?

None of it is outsourced. On average our IT workers make about 20-30% less than their private sector peers. Some of this is due to them being a bit less skilled in some cases or at least less experienced. If they outsourced my job I could be back doing the same work, for whomever they hired, with a substantial raise. That’s what happened with many I. The facilities department when they outsourced some functions.

Less than 30% of our state Universities funding comes from tax dollars, most is from student fees and tuition. This is true at most universities

Not even being a state worker I think this is dumb AF. If the people weren't working at home, fire them. It is that easy. If they weren't working and it wasn't really noticed? Eliminate the roll

It's very difficult to fire somebody who is a Classified employee of a state agency under Louisiana Civil Service.

My experience with LA Civil Service is they seek path of least resistance when it comes to policy. If a few will abuse something, then they will take it away from everybody.

It's a shame because there are good employees who can be trusted to get their work done. It should always be about performance. If it's getting done on time, to the proper standard of quality and is ethically sound, it shouldn't matter where it gets done and on what schedule.

I will now do less work and become less efficient.

Doctors appts for my kids and I will turn into full or half days off instead of being gone an hour as they are close to my home, not office.

I’ll also not bring my laptop home anymore so I won’t be as available after hours. There will also be a huge increase in personnel issues which will result in more wasted time and money.

you said employers would save money providing every employee internet service at home as opposed to in an office was retarded. it is almost as if some of you think private companies haven't done cost estimates to study what is more profitable for them as a company.

That's a feature, not a bug.

Gov employees haven't used sick leave and have infrequently used vacation leave since WFH. I've heard of people not using one hour of sick leave in 5 years.

The leadership wants you to burn it. They're terrified of how much leave is on the books.

They have, which is why most have downsized office space and use a hoteling model. You are once again arguing yourself. Dumbass

would you take a cut in pay to work from home?

I’d require more to work from home because they’d have to rent my office space from me
