Ronnie could teach today’s country/pop crossovers a thing or two.

The ‘murica, F250s and small town gonna whip your arse themes don’t have the universal appeal of Ronnie’s music and that era.

And he grew up in abject poverty in SW NC.

One of the greatest entertainers and great success stories in the history of entertainment. The man definitely made the very best of his life against all odds.

His mother abandoned him as a child after learning of his condition that rendered him blind- seeing it as "God punishing HER for her sins." More recently, he lost a son to a medical condition in 2019.

quote:

Ronnie Milsap was born on January 16, 1943, and he started living with his grandparents when he was a year old. His mother had abandoned him because she believed that God blinded him as a punishment. When he was six, his mother visited him with her second child and asked Milsap to touch his sister's eyes. She went on to tell him that his sister did not shame her. After that day, he never spoke with her again.

What a lousy witch.

Much of his life has been like a sad song

Wouldn’t “If You Don't Want Me To” be his greatest hit?

If you’re in south Louisiana yes. Outside of south LA, no.

The song was never released as a single and never charted.
