Not sure what you mean by this. First rounds I've seen quite a few get cut and they really didn't give a crap. Second and now third is a diff story. Outside looking into a place like Halli it seems that relations are saving more asses than work ethic. If your daddy has a good duck blind or camp in Dularge your in good shape lol

What I mean is those acting happy that the industry is getting gutted so that they get cheap gas could say that about any industry. I can get shite cheap if the demand is so low that they are cutting 50% of their workforce just to make ends meet.

As far as the Halliburton and relationships. I have seen many companies both service and operator levels over the last few years go through this. I seriously doubt a company as big as Halliburton (or Baker or SLB) are making decisions based on a duck camp. Any guy small enough to be influenced by that camp got his marching orders from someone higher up who doesn't give a flying frick about Joe's duck blind. Now at smaller companies, this may be an issue.

You'll be better off in the end if this turns around remotely soon. My mom worked for them for years. Retired early when they were offering packages (she got lucky since she planned to retire in the next few months anyway). She has nothing good to say about the direction of that company (at least within whatever product line she was in). I've heard nothing but terrible things about the direction of Weatherford.

Jackson Hewitt, HR Block type work. I don't even think you need accounting.....so having it guarantees a paycheck during the transition.

Just take anything!! It's a job regardless of if you take a 40% pay cut!

Today I went to the Australia Oil and Gas conference in Perth.

It was 100% doom and gloom.

Current forecast is oil will be 60/bbl in 2020

My biggest fear. It's not the money. We've got enough saved and can make some moves that aren't fun to do, but would keep us afloat. But I don't want to take another job for a year and this thing turn around and now I'm making 40% less, but invested in a new career. I will however not be above waiting tables if I have to. I don't care if I have enough money saved, I'll still take the few hundred bucks a week to keep us going without wrecking our savings.

Hey, it gets him experience in taxes. Seems like taxes aren't going away anytime soon.....maybe if he went the tax route to begin with he wouldn't be unemployed right now...hummm

You should have seen NAPE a few weeks ago in Houston. 11,000 people registered vs 18,000 last year, and I'd be shocked if more than 4,000 actually showed up.

It's just funny how some people think to me. Accept any job, make ends meet, even if you will be entirely miserable and making a fraction of what you were previously making.

If you're prepared, you don't have to do this. That's an absolute last resort in my eyes.

Seriously, how old are you? You want an actual account to get experience with taxes at HR block? Just give it a rest.

mutually exclusive

1. accept a paying job
a. in current field
b. new field
2. position yourself for another job
a. school
-expanding in current field
-expanding in new field
b. certifications
-to make oneself more marketable in current field
-to make up for lack of experience in field

Sorry, supposed to be a simple outline...why can't you add spaces on this site?
