they recently got back in church

This leads to another question. I don't know of a single church, especially in the South, that wouldn't have expended significant amts of time and energy to take care of this for anyone who even sporadically attended their church.

Great point

How does gofundme work? Do they release the funds immediately? I’m guessing most of the money is already spent if so, not sure how refunds work in that situation if the money has already been released,

We have no money but we want to hold an $8,000 funeral.

What kind of bull shite is that?

quote:

The average funeral costs between $7,000 and $12,000. This includes viewing and burial, basic service fees, transporting remains to a funeral home, a casket, embalming, and other preparation. The average cost of a funeral with cremation is $6,000 to $7,000.

Is it really out of line? Poor people don't bury their dead? I don't know if this is a scam, but someone wanting to bury their wife as per her wishes isn't something I'm going to criticize.

Sonya seems overly desperate to have the money deposited to her account (aka David’s new bank account on Monday). David doesn’t have a bank account? (ETA: might be true since David doesn’t have a car)

Sorry Sonya, the OT isn’t going to fund your drug habit.

That’s the most normal part of this whole saga. That’s what funerals cost.

It is going to get worse. One of the earlier posts said he had a whole bottle of Xanax. I am betting old baw medicated her before he went to pick up her scrips.

The autopsy may have a big surprise.

I'm not sure how it all works. But the way I understand it, only the person that set up the account can draw it down.
I think this whole thing is crazy because no one understood how generous y'all would be. $20,000+ is a LOT of money.
I'm out, I'll post the obituary when it's released. Thanks again for everyone that helped/wanted to help. Merry Christmas.

This thread turned into a glorius shite show. I'm glad I decided against donating and I hope those who did get their money back.

It’s basically become a battle over control of the GFM account. Which begs the question, who originally set it up?

I’d like to start a website called GoDEFundMe. We do everything to strip people of the money they’re counting on.

I don’t blame you. It doesn’t appear you are in a position to influence them enough and I certainly wouldn’t want to be in the position of trying to answer for their behavior here. I would still appreciate occasional updates from you as I can’t make much of what CD or Sonya posts.

There are actually 2 that are set up. Both claiming to be organized by the same person, one has zero dollars. The other has over $20,000

Yep. GFM website says you need a bank account to start a fundraiser so Sonya trying to setup a bank account for David to withdraw GFM funds to sounds fishy

quote:

US Social Security number or ITIN
A US mailing address from one of the 50 states
A US phone number
A US bank account in your name
A US drivers license or US passport
Must be at least 18 years of age
