The OT is a massive POS as a whole. Even if this guy is lying, and you gave him $20, who cares? You’re out $20, big deal. Karma will get him. And if he’s not lying, then you helped a great cause. But no, let’s fight and argue over stupid shite.

The internet is just a concentrated concoction of the duality of man, man. You see the worst, you see the best, and you see everything inbetween. When we don't have to look at each other, talk to one another, or hold each other accountable, you're going to see the id of whoever is behind the screen.

Imagine how this guy is going to feel when he wakes up tomorrow to find out that the validity of his very real tragedy is being questioned because of his prior drug use, which I’m sure he is already not proud of, just so you can feel comfortable donating $20 to bury his deceased wife.

Put yourself in those shoes for a moment.

Unfortunately, the power of the OT is a double edged sword today

We're not perfect. I've only scanned the thread and didn't see what you're referencing, but if my humanity meter is working, I'm certain his wake up call will be much more focused on the 20k we put together than some individual remarks in a very long thread.

I don't know, maybe I'm an optimist.

I’m not sure if that is poignant or you are high. Probably both.

If this is a scam I’m out $50:00. If it is the truth I helped someone who needed help.

Either way the gift was given for the right reason.

Someone linked the Gadsen jail records. If it is the same person, they have been arrested five times from 2010 to 2015.

OT can be brutal.

Lots of people don’t like being taken. Even if it is $20.

Not saying this guy is a thief but I’ve seen this sort of scheme multiple times. There’s nothing wrong with vetting the guy before giving a stranger money.

Very true. Imagine someone that you didn’t know very well from your office telling you his story and then you telling everyone else in the office that y’all should stalk his Facebook and criminal record before you give anything to him.

I haven't been high in over half a year. Give the credit to alcohol.

The thing I find most interesting as more GFMs are allowed here (Chicken used to not allow any at all) is which ones pick up steam and which ones go by with barely a second thought.

I periodically bumped mine, and I did not get any gruff for it. Maybe it's because he was a baby in dire need; IDK. Regardless, I'm thankful for the lack of moderation on the subject.

I’m not passing judgment here, and I don’t want to beca dick...but why would a 43yo woman be so concerned with dying?

Maybe or maybe he wakes up and realizes once again that he can’t escape his demons even in the time of his greatest vulnerability reaching out for help and pouring out his soul with his real name to a bunch of strangers in a public forum.

I'm 10 years younger and I've repeated the opposite to anyone who will listen. Some folks are just a little more aware of their mortality and fragility than others.

I advise my wife on what to do when I die all the time and I'm under 30: Don't ask people to send flowers, don't start a GFM (because we have life insurance, I'm not dissing OP here), clear my browser history, etc.
