Looks like self defense to me. Had a brick into the windshield and a guy attacking him through the window while others pound on his car.
In a normal world, he goes free.
I have thought about being in this scenario and what I would do. I would probably fire in the air first as a warning shot but this guy didn't have that option unless he fired through the roof of the car plus he was about to get dragged out and beaten. This is a scary situation that happened fast. Hopefully, the DA drops the case after reviewing the video and the attackers own words that he punched the guy.

My wife is black and I have as many, or probably more, black friends than white so I'd say I'm pretty neutral when it comes to these issues.

Defending? HE drove right into it! Then flees on foot? 10:1 it's a stolen car and a grudge
He started driving down the street but stopped when the crowd was thick. If he had wanted to drive into them he would have kept going.
Once the thug POS reached in his car (his property) and started assaulting him then yes he should have and did use deadly force but he screwed up he left his attacker alive. Don’t pull a gun unless you plan to use it and don’t use it unless you intend to stop the threat permanently.

What does having a black wife or black friends have to do with having an opinion?
Perhaps you're scared to have an opinion in fear you'll upset the apple cart?

He hit his brakes. Doesn't look like he was trying to run through a crowd

Did the guy he shot die ?
Unfortunately, no.

Has it been mentioned anywhere if this was a permitted protest that allowed for the protesters to block a public roadway and impede another citizen's travel on that road?
Or is this another instance of once legal protesters becoming criminals by illegally blocking a public roadway and impeding another citizen's right to travel on that public roadway, all while the police refuse to do their jobs and clear said roadway?

No. Apparently shot in the arm. If you click the link to the video there's another video under that one where he's giving an interview as people are walking him out.
I'm curious of the calibre of the gun.
Camera guy seemed in on it too. A little too much drama for something that didn't happen yet.

From what I have read, the intersection he was heading towards has been the location of protests every day, and has been closed most days.
It does not appear the street he was driving down was closed.

Hmmmm, so no permits and no legal right to block a public roadway?

If that cross street was closed, it was closed by police. So yes, they would have legal right to be in the public roadway if that was the case.

So, the police gave up and simply refused enforce the law, ignoring law abiding citizen's right to travel on the roads their taxes pay for, thus deferring to criminals?
I realize I am being facetious. However, when your very actions make you a criminal, you have no legal leg to stand on.
They tried this in a city near me. There was a permitted protest that allowed for road blockage. It had a time limit agreed upon by protesters and city officials. Everything went well, until the legal protest ended. Half the folks decided to stick around and play in the road. They were given plenty of time to pout, then they were effectively and unapologetically dispersed.
There has been no more road blocking without a permit.

The shooter is mixed so you won't see this on your local or national news.

The story on the news this morning was he got out to turn himself over to police. Probably before he had to shoot more of the idiots
But nonetheless, it still seems like a horrible decision to get out of your car where you have some sort of safety and run into the crowd who just watched you shoot someone.
Definitely seems like a bad decision there.
