You don’t think a rifled slug from a 12 gauge shotgun will penetrate a wall? Come on man. Of course it will. You might as well be using a 3006 or 270 rifle than that.

Would love to hear from the OT baws & ballers what they have tucked away for home defense. Some folks swear by the shotgun, others prefer the pistol in its various forms, but what says the OT?

Curious, why the hate on the .40? I know why I prefer it, but maybe you have a different perspective.

To me the .40 takes the worst aspect of the .45 (inaccuracy) and combines it with the worst aspect of the .9 mm (lack of stopping power) in one sucky-suck arse round.

The question was about best home defense weapon, the answer is pump action shotgun. If the noise doesn't scare them off you also have a weapon capable of doling out damage

I also like shotguns because I live on the ground flood of an apartment complex and would prefer not to shoot through the wall and accidentally hit my pothead manchild neighbor.

True. My reasoning on using them, at least in a home/self defense situation - My wife was trained on the .40 b/c the .45 was to heavy and the 9mm lacks stopping power. Also, in 15'-30' typical home defense situations, aiming center mass, it's hard to miss.

Myth... and most handguns lack “stopping power”

Coworker gave it to me as a birthday gift when he heard I was looking for an HD gun.

Last guy who broke in got a 45 to the leg and then I strapped him to a skinning table in the garage rammed a rag down his throat, hooked him up to an IV and had a pleasant 2 days with him before the bastard died on me.

What a worthless wimp he was. Ears, nose and 4 fingers on one hand and 12 shots from my nail gun before the loser gave up on me and died. Took him to the farm down the Big Black River and laid him to rest in a shallow grave.

Would have been nice if he had made it longer. They just don't make burglars like they used to. I guess I just expected more from him than he was willing to give up. May not have even been his fault. Obviously my bad.

OK, Just kidding. Actually, I tell them I am unarmed and a peace loving guy and they always agree with me and leave, usually offering me some money to make amends for their actions.

I just usually offer them a pour of some good bourbon and discuss moving from the home invasion career to...ANYTHING. Being a fortunate white guy with a really nice house in a sought after neighborhood I feel it's my duty to retaliate with good vibes than bullets.

A true humanitarian. I agree fully. A little reason always goes a long way. I have seen people point a gun in anger, screaming "gonna blow you stinky arse away" actually lower it and burst out crying when they are confronted with those words for which there is no way to deal with in anger - "Let's just be reasonable, friend. Why don't we sit down with a nice pour of my expensive single malt?"
