While I agree there are some that may fit the mold of a mental disorder maybe some, like myself, want to be as healthy as possible. It started with me being a rescue swimmer in the USCG. It was kinda a must to survive and it became routine. Although, being from New Orleans, I freaking love food.

You sure talk alot about people being homos. Back in the service....the guy who spouted the most about gays ended up being the closet pole smoker.

My house is like this, but it's because we have a housekeeper Mon-Fri. Unfortunately, I cant pay someone to work out for me.

What does that say about the profession you chose?

My goal at 40 is to not be fat. I hate running and it's Africa hot outside 5-6 months of the year. Weights are my preferred method of exercise.

I know a dude who is at the gym every morning before his wife and kids wake up, gets to work at 6:30 or so and gets off at 4:30-5:00 and goes back to the gym. Will get home between 7:30-8:00 on a daily basis. Personally, I don't want to be committed to anything that much, and I don't have a wife that would be ok with me doing that. I once asked him what his end goal was and he really didn't have an answer for me.

Sounds like it's spending time away from his wife and kids.

Yeah but genetics don’t make you gobble down that double whopper with diet soda every day for lunch and then follow it up with 3 hours on a couch after work

I didn't say it did. Genetics simply provides you with superior potential. The individual must still apply iron discipline, determination, good habits and, a firm control over one's precious bodily fluids -- and be careful about flouride in the drinking water -- it steals testosterone from the body.

Bodybuilding and fitness centers have always attracted men who strongly desire to admire the beauty of the male physique -- if you know what I mean -- not that there's anything wrong with that!

So I joined a gym and see all these dudes admiring themselves in the mirror after every curl, and women in skin tight outfits who for some reason can only do yoga stretches in the middle of the free weight section, and I began to wonder "do i have what it takes to create the body others admire?", and began to list in my mind what kind of dedication and work would be involved. Waking up at 5 am to work out, working out at lunch, and then again after work, living off salad, chicken breast, supplements, smoothies, regurgitation, etc...balancing and weighing every meal....and began to think that only someone who is mentally ill could muster up such determination. Imagine the cleanest, most organized, perfectly decorated house you ever saw. You admire it, you wish your house looked the same....but it's not normal and only someone who is severely OCD suffering from one or many mental disorders would be compelled enough to live that way. It's not about hard work or determination, it's about compulsion, if you suffered from a condition that means that your entire world stops if a picture is crooked then it's almost ZERO work or determination to keep your house in perfect order. There is no Choice. You don't "choose" to change your bed sheets every morning, you "have to". You don't "choose" to go to the gym, you "need" to because the last time you looked in the mirror your left bicep looked 1 nanometer smaller than your right and it gives you anxiety. My hypothesis, we allow mentally deranged people to set the bar that normal people are judged by.

It is amazing how people like you that don’t possess the ability to accomplish the things that you desire rationalize your complacency, inadequacey and insecurities. We’re not mentally ill, you’re just a fat, lazy frick looking for an excuse to be a fat and lazy frick

I enjoy spending my free time with other males, wearing tight clothing, grunting and sweating.

I think I'd prefer a person who dedicates themself to a gym rather then dedicates themselves to being a worthless junkie.

I’m ok with this rational as long as you feel the same way about people on the opposite end of the spectrum. I think there are 100x more people who have “mental disorders” to use your words to justify eating like shite and calling it normal.

If we are going to decide between both ends of the spectrum you described I’ll take the OCD gym people over the fat slobs who live in trash piles all day.
