No! Choked yes, to death no. The guy was yelling that he can't breath. If you can yell, you can breath. Don't believe me try it at home. If the suspect had complied, he'd be alive.

And if the police hadn't used an illegal choke hold to arrest him he'd be alive. Funny how the police always protect themselves and serve others. The power of the police state to kill with impunity marches on.

Wait so they don't work?

How do you know that?

Why must we assume the worst for certain people?

it seems a bit excessive to continue choking the guy once he's down.

Are you sure he continued choking him? The video is a little hard to see but it looks like he chokes him for about 13-14 seconds (from ~:38-:52) and then the rest of the time he is just pressing his head down but nothing is around his neck from what I can tell.

Unbelievable

Pantaleo is white, and Garner was black. Garner's family, in an effort to thwart tensions, has consistently said race should not be a factor in the case, but protests in Ferguson have raised concerns in New York.

Good for them. This should be a much bigger story though

His refusal to comply caused the escalation.

I would hardly call what he did 'physical resistance.' Regardless, people don't need to die for selling cigarettes. I don't care how overweight he was. A headlock was against departmental procedure and thus illegal.

I was more talking about being terrorized by the police. But the black unemployment rate is pretty high.

Staten Island is police central. NO way in hell there could have been a fair decision taking place there.

The grand jury could have considered a range of charges, from a murder charge to a lesser offense like reckless endangerment.

So they think he is completely innocent?

This one should have gone to trial.

I am thankful the weather is complete crap up here right now. Rainy and cold.

I remember when this happened and thought "welp that cop is going to frickin jail."

Didn't see this coming. Outrage is warranted.

I'm going to assume that the medical examiner was more qualified than your chocking fetish at home

quote:

The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Garner’s death a homicide caused by “compression of neck (chokehold), compression of chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.”

Nah man, I'm sure he knows what he was talking about. Listen to him, he was so smart he didn't even need to go Medical school or be trained as a coroner.

So the ME says homicide by choking and there's video of the guy being choked and no trial.

This could get ugly. Makes no sense.

It's not a chance to spin this onto "black lawlessness" in their own community; the state should NOT be killing those they are PAID to protect. And yes, those communities are pissed that their hard earned tax dollars are going to be used to terrorize them.

The simple fact is, these communities have a higher concentration of criminals. Not white criminals, not brown criminals, not black criminals... just criminals.

Then you may need to watch the video again to understand that slapping at a police officer during an interrogation is not a good idea.

The problem is a lot of the anger about the MB situation is because of cases like this one. For every misguided/Ambigious case like MB, there are probably 10+ like This EG case. In fact, I can think of 4 off the top of head within the last 6 months.

THEN WHY NOT SPEAK OUT ABOUT THOSE CASES???

I knew we were gonna get some idiots in this thread going "See! See! White cops do kill black people!"

This case has nothing to do with MB, and it shouldn't even be mentioned in the same category. People speaking out about Ferguson were doing so because that whole situation was asinine, and it still is no matter how many cases surface about white cops killing black people. They can't all be lumped into one.
