You listed Metallica dude. As an example of rock n roll?
They were in the best rock category as well. Which is why I listed them. I don't particularly care for Metallica.

Also, have you listened to the song Pain from the newest album? If that's not firmly in the category of kick arse guitar straight awesome rock music, I don't know what the frick is.
Ya, I have. It's Alternative, not rock.

The War on Drugs annihilate all those bands except for Metallica. And don't the Grammys have a separate category for hard rock stuff anyway?
What kind of band do you categorize WOD as?

I don't have as much a problem with them being included as I do with music no one would mistake for anything but rock and roll essentially being excluded from radio and pop culture (Ghost, The Sword, Clutch, All Them Witches, Mastodon, etc).
The same issue is happening in country music with hick/hop (Florida/Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, etc) being blasted all over "country" radio while Sturgil Simpson and Jason Isbell and Texas Country bands like Turnpike Troubadours get zero play despite sold out concerts and critic success.

Haven't you heard? Gibson doesn't make real guitars anymore.

This I am in full agreement with you on.
I've seen Mastodon 3 times and The Sword twice. Fantastic shows. Criminally underrated bands.
But I'm not going to sit here and let someone say War On Drugs isn't Rock music or a real band. They are. And they're one of the few solid ones around.

Because labels and categories exist for a reason.
They should have been in Alternative and won that one. They'd deserve it.
They don't deserve winning a category they're a lesser fit for.
It's like putting Bruno Mars in country and him winning because he's a good musician. Sure, he deserves to win an award for his talent...but you just fricked an actual country group from winning their correct category.

U2 and Elton John were the only two with talent on the entire show.

What's your opinion of the definition of "alternative" and "rock"?

You're going to actually argue that WOD is a better fit in the Rock category over Alternative?
Seriously?

I'll admit its pretty subjective, especially with The National winning "alternative"
You could argue The National is a more traditional rock band than War on Drugs

That's not a definition.

Answer my question.
Does WOD more closely fit the artists found in the Alternative Category, or the Rock category?
