Alcorn State University is in rural Lorman, Mississippi. They have only two or three entrances to campus. There is a guard gate at each. They don't search cars, but it is probably a good deterrent to troublemakers and ensures each car entering has a nice video of it.
They normally require visitors to sign up for a free 24 hour guest permit. We rolled up during summer when it was quiet, I nicely asked the guard if we could take a look at campus, and she validated my privilege by waiving me in.
