Gov Incentive for Purchase of EVs

Somewhat overlooked in the $3.5T (or maybe $5.5T) Reconciliation Bill are provisions to give an extra $4,500 to purchasers of EVs manufactured in union plants, which would total as much as $12,500 incentives. This would discourage purchase of Teslas and other EVs manufactured in right to work states.

Spend trillions and get a few thousand back?? More government social engineering…awesome

Anyone buying one of these may get a shock, no pun intended.
Previous credits for such cars were non-refundable and a number of people buying them had such a low amount of tax due that they didn’t get anything back on them.
Add into that the reality that you are going to have to change a massive battery every several years and those “incentives” aren’t as good as you think.

I'm sure the automaker won't take this into account and hike up the price since they are an honest industry

Who cares? The Bill isn't going to cost us anything.
Joe said so.

And then impose a mileage tax which wipes out any advantage of driving an EV.

i was told the trillions in spending was free?

I can see applying the credit for all domestically manufactured EV’s, but union only is kind of bullshite. That’s giving Ford an advantage that Toyota, Tesla, and VW won’t get.

They typically last a lot longer than several years. But it is a cost that you should prepare for as an EV owner.
They are remedying that by applying so many emissions restrictions on gas and diesel vehicles that they will become unreliable and costly to own. That’s the game plan.

It’s corruption, not social engineering.
It’s a payoff to the union leadership.

True, but I am not even sure how that is legal.

Democrats decide what is legal and what is not. That's the cornerstone of Biden's administration.
If they want to do it, it's legal.

I mean most of them are covered under warranty for 8-10 years. And the cost to replace the battery is likely to be less than the routine maintenance cost on a IC vehicle over that time period.

99% of the people on here just regurgitate what they see shared on Facebook. There are only a couple people around here who can have an intelligent conversation about battery degradation. Don’t get your hopes up about using logic to sway anyones opinion.
