Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a bill Thursday to expand who gets access to medical marijuana. Under this measure, more diseases that cause seizures can be treated with the drug. SB 271 also makes regulatory changes, which could help patients get it quicker. It’s been a long time coming for parents who provided emotional testimony over the last few weeks.

Step in the right direction? I'll say yes.
A good law? Hell no.

Anyone else's epilepsy been acting up lately?

The original text of the bill allowed it to be prescribed for "severe muscle spasms". A lot of wiggle room with that diagnosis and they amended it out.

Just going to end up legalizing. What a terrible road to be on to the future. Now I'm going to have to go to work with some hippy pothead that just smoked two doobies before work and he will be completely unproductive and lazy. You college kids need to think about this....

Really couldn't get it decriminalized?
Posted on 5/19/16 at 11:05 am to ForeverLSU02
Legalize it and tax it in Louisiana. Until then, no care.
The state needs money and that would be one easy solution, not that hard.

Well, the voice of the people, the District Attorney's Association and the Louisiana Sheriff Association, has objected it from the get go. Can't have this whole medical marijuana thing cut into people's jail time, prison population, and most importantly, the profit they all make from it being legalized. Sooooo.....
Save the communities.
What about the children?

Exactly!!
Jobless hippies love to talk about tax revenues from selling this drug, but what happens when all that extra revenue is wasted on rape kits and rehabs?

I bet the Louisiana alcohol lobby has to be involved in fighting it. They, if anyone, knows that we'd decreases alcohol consumption.
Plus, if they legalize it, I won't be able to trade joints to the Dominos vendor on parade routes. I enjoyed using joints as currency last Mardi Gras.

Along with the Sheriff and DA lobbies. Slave labor, the money made from prisoner stipends, and legalized theft through civil forfeiture is all way to lucrative for those groups to give up.
