Just got sent home for eight weeks. (Car sales, Escambia County Florida)
Our dealership is going down to a skeleton crew. I’ll get paid my weekly average for the past year for the next eight weeks. I can still go in and sell, but by appointment only.

I'm thinking of documenting each day of my unemployment and selling my story.

Seriously? Hate it for you but I work for a regional PVF supply house. We're going 100 mph. Our customer base is construction companies.

I think he meant plant/refinery contractor construction jobs. Those projects have almost all been postponed where possible.

That was my work from home routine. I'm branching out now that I'm unemployed.

Imagine if trump & his administration had taken pandemic preparation & response seriously leading up to this

The response could have been better with regards to shoring up needs of hospitals and testing but the virus was going to get here and spread regardless of his actions. The need to shut down businesses was inevitable if the goal is going to be to flatten the curve so I dont see your point. Did you expect him to advise non-essential businesses to close sooner?Like in Feb?

I am incredibly grateful. I actually got a raise during all of this shite, and I'm pretty sure a coworker got a raise today.

My department is pretty busy because of all of the remote employees. Our business itself is down a good bit though.

I had a group of employees approach me Tuesday, asking for a lay off. We are working reduced hours here...
Said with State Unemployment ($247) and extra $ 600 added from stimulus they make more than currently working these reduced hours. Clearing $850/week to sit home isn't too bad.

These were employees we kept after laying off 30 week before.
Now... they make less than the previously laid off workers.
Just bad timing.

So pull your best aside, offer them a raise to stay on, lay off the rest.

You'll have a smaller, happier group of employees, and I'd bet they'll be more productive.

I work in consulting (for schools, on federal programs) so nothing has really changed. Not being in operation doesn't really change anything as far as their budget goes/being able to pay us.

This time of year involves a lot of work on our end in preparation for next year, so luckily don't run the risk of anyone refusing to pay us due to not being open. We would have more risk of clients refusing to pay if we were in like August or something.

Me and each of my coworkers and our boss all live in different states (and our clients are located across the US), so working remotely is the norm anyway. Like I said - incredibly grateful Let's just hope this shite starts to clear up soon.

Bold of them to do this now when we don't know when exactly that begins.

Were you involved in primarily private development?

If so, I figured that'd begin the economic onslaught......

Yeah, no shite.

I got furloughed last week. I can pay my bills for a few months, but I've seen no concrete date on when we're supposed to receive stimulus checks, and I haven't received an unemployment check yet.
