Many new car models feature wiring harnesses made with an insulator the rats/mice like to eat. This has become a major problem.

rat trap in glove box ?

Mix a five gallon bucket with half bleach half ammonia. Leave that in your car. Rat will probably die. Downside is you might also die.

Wait for the next cold spell let nature do its thing.

Did you have to declare them when you went through customs?
I don't know if I should have, but I did not. I crossed back into the US at a poduck border crossing in western Montana that was closed during the night. I got there about 3:00am, so I found a wide spot on the shoulder of the highway and went to sleep in my car. When I woke up about 8:00am, I drove the last 1/4 mile to the border. I was the only traveler there. Five guys and a gig searched my car for about 15 minutes. I don't know what the frick they were looking for, but I don't think it was illegal alien rodents.

That is entirely too much bleach and ammonia, OP use like half of that.

He didn't say how big the rat was. I assumed pretty big.

Let a black rat snake in for a while or a cat. Either will take care of it for you.

Drive your car into a lake.

If you kill it in your car it will die in a vent and stink. I caught one in my wife's car with a sticky trap and then it was shovel time out on the lawn.

I got two sticky traps and 2 rat traps. I hope to catch it alive so I can torture it a bit.

Let your car run in a closed garage for an hour and it will suffocate
