Yes, near absolute zero. The temps are required to keep the molecules as stable as possible in order to prevent voltage fluctuations. Because qubits can be in multiple states, not just 1s and 0s the voltage ranges are far more sensitive than a traditional binary-based computer.

It is the gateway to the galactic internet. We’ve just got to tune in to the proper frequency.
But it’s coming!

Aren’t they extremely fragile and require to be kept at extremely low temperatures?
They're kept very close to absolute 0. Google a picture of one. Pretty cool looking.

Regarding the tech it is indeed a small percentage that care but a lot higher by many magnitudes than you suggest. The fricks given when the practical implications start becoming reality will soar the other direction. When it starts to get seriously implemented quantum computing will be one be of the larger paradigm shifts in the history of mankind.

I see the potential in other areas but if everyone has QC doesn’t it make online security even more vulnerable?

You'll care when your employer requires 260 character passwords that expire every 6.5 minutes.

How close are we to 1000gbps to attempt to keep up with these leaps in processing and flash storage?

And Google would rather work with the Chi-Coms than the US military.
