Good old American Airlines in New Orleans..

My connection flight is only a 40 min layover.
We board, everyone is seated, and they come on the intercom stating weather is preventing the fueling of the plane.
15 min late already from taking off and growing.
Storms are east and west of the airport, it’s not raining, and they cells aren’t moving much at all.
Here comes a 6+ hour layover when I miss the connection..

Is it common to wait to fuel right before you taxi away from the terminal?
Still no rain and it has thundered 1 time.

American decided to cancel my 6AM flight at 10:30 PM the night before. I only knew bc I checked my email one last time before I went to bed. Then they don’t refund you; they automatically book you on one with a connection flight despite me purposely wanting a direct flight. Straight theft.

The storms are actually in New Orleans, you are not

I know. Sitting in Kenner with no weather and we are delayed.

A couple of days ago in Houston when connecting, we sat on the tarmac for 45 minutes because of "weather in the area."
After 45 minutes of no rain, it starts pouring down rain and we sit there for another hour. Then we took off and flew an hour in the wrong direction to fly around the rest of the storm.
It's almost as if we waited for the storms to get there.

Lightening within a few miles of the area?

Kinda don't have a choice on a connecting leg.

2 years ago I would have regularly booked flights with 30-40 minute layovers.
With the way airlines have been this year with delays, I’m either flying direct or having 2 hr layovers.

When a lightning bolt is indicated on the display of a lightning detection/prediction system, here are a few steps to remember when dealing with severe weather and lightning:
At 15 miles: Local station leadership (or a designated ground operations employee) should begin monitoring storm activity and communicating alerts and ramp closures to all operating departments.
At 8 miles: Ensure all airport operations employees have up-to-date information on the severe weather event. Local station leadership should be responsible for ensuring that a severe weather/lightning communications plan is implemented.
At 5 miles: Be prepared to stop fueling operations.
At 3 miles: Ground employees should discontinue aircraft communication with the communications headset.

Few weeks ago we landed in Houston and they couldn’t get a gate assignment so we sat on the runway for an hour and 10 min, the whole time the flight attendants walked up and down the isle bitching at people about their masks

American Airlines is awful. I hate how casual, laid back, and informal their atmosphere and culture is. Delta might be the homo airline but at least they still keep a formal culture.

Happened to me last weekend. Weather has sucked around here lately. Just gotta deal with it for living in such a shitty place.

It’s raining directly where you need to fly thru. It happens. Sit tight. I guarantee your flight crew is ready to leave NOLA more than you are
