It ain't the weed making Gen Z depressed.
It's the anti-depressants

Eh, this research doesn’t look like it matches the headline. Reading the paper, a few things stick out as not being persuasive. But really, the title of the article says it all…
Right out of the gate, note that the title of the paper is…
That said, I have no doubts that individual predisposed to schizophrenia are more likely to gravitate toward weed than the general population. But this particular paper doesn’t do anything to indicate that weed is likely to cause more schizophrenia. (It still might, but this paper is fundamentally not designed to either support or refute that assertion)
In addition, note from the title that this paper does not compare schizophrenia prevalence among weed smokers and the general population. Rather, it compares the prevalence of schizophrenia between male weed users and female weed users. While this research finds that schizophrenia prevalence is higher among male weed smokers than female weed smokers, this doesn’t conclude anything about the prevalence of weed smokers verse non weed smokers.
It’s still worth noting that research has previously concluded that schizophrenia is higher in weed smokes than in non weed smokers, but that’s not the objective of this particular research.
From the paper itself, here were the four main objectives…
As is often the case with this type of “reporting”, your article wildly misrepresents the conclusions of this research paper.
Having said all of that, as a former heavy weed smoker myself, I agree that the side effects of marijuana are far more significant than is sold to most smokers. This paper just doesn’t do much to support that likely reality, outside of identifying a greater risk for males than for females.
Right out of the gate, note that the title of the paper is…
quote:Note that the title very clearly indicates association, not causation. Might seem like a small thing, but in research papers, these words are chose very carefully. Association is always used to carefully differentiate that “correlation is not causation idea”.
Association between cannabis use disorder and schizophrenia stronger in young males than in females

1. Do the associations between CUD and schizophrenia vary by sex?
2. Do the sex differences in the associations between CUD and schizophrenia change over time and by age?
3. Does the proportion of schizophrenia cases attributable to CUD vary by sex?
4. Does the sex-specific proportion of schizophrenia cases attributable to CUD change over time and by age?

Correlation and causation leapfrogging each other; pets’ heads falling off
This is bullshite.

fixed for accuracy every one of these stupid studies starts with a premise then looks for ways to reinforce that premise. truth is Marijuana is used more often by those who have trouble fitting in, no matter what that reason is
So you’re assuming they find f’ed up kids for their study? I suggest you read the study amigo.

i can do a study with the same slanted predetermined outcome to say whatever you want it to be if you only chose something to confirm your already preconceived idea
a prime example - school lunches cause kids to be gay, because gay kids eat there

Awesome now tell me what alcohol does to young people
Posted on 5/27/23 at 2:47 pm to keakar
Bingo. They’re talking about correlation which is very different from causation.
An example…use of TikTok among young parents has skyrocketed, so too has autism. But TikTok does not cause autism.
