Entergy Corp is the headquarters of all the various Entergy companies.

quote:

Entergy Corp. made a record profit of nearly $1.4 billion last year, up 11% on the previous year, despite lower sales across the board as demand for gas and electricity from retailers, offices, industry and even residential consumers fell amid the recession brought on by the pandemic.

Entergy Chairman and CEO Leo Denault, said the shareholder-owned utility, the only Fortune 500 company headquartered in New Orleans, was able to increase profit despite lower sales due to sharp cuts in fixed costs, including "workforce attrition," trimming employee expenses and by delaying spending on some projects.

LOL. So they delayed capex and cut employees - leading I'm sure to even shittier customer service. Meanwhile I'm sure those expenses were built into their approved rates.

quote:

On Wednesday, Craig Greene, chairman of Louisiana's Public Service Commission, which regulates Entergy Louisiana, weighed in.

"You’re a multi-billion-dollar company with penny-club customer service,” Greene told Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana's CEO, at Wednesday's PSC meeting.

Great quote, but will anything come of it?

Doesn’t hurt that the new meters doubled people’s bill.

Time for the PSC to adjust their rates and begin questions on why a company with such high profits needs to be tacking on storm recovery fees.

Doesn’t Louisiana have the lowest rates in the nation?

Why would y’all want us to be like everyone else?

Good news for the CEO also.

Denault may work hard, but he’s remunerated well for his efforts. His estimated net-worth (as of December 2018) is at least $29.5 Million dollars. Denault owns over 45,000 units of Entergy stock worth over $16,356,949. In addition, he makes $13,158,200 in compensation for his position as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer at Entergy.

Not dancing around the essence of Entergy....

At least they aren't Comcast.

If you only knew. Almost 4 weeks and I still don’t have the lines pulled to my house for my under ground service.

It is 2nd or 3rd lowest. I think OK has the lowest and it is either SD or ND that has rates very similar to LA. I looked it up a few weeks ago and was surprised to see TX was middle of the pack.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. They’ll either have to reinvest a lot of that into the infrastructure or face rate case hell. They don’t just get to pocket all of this.

Entergy New Orleans: Much more power cut than necessary Mardi Gras night

quote:

Officials with Entergy New Orleans told the City Council that emergency shutdowns ordered by a regional grid manager last week called for the utility to reduce the city’s power consumption by 26 megawatts. Instead, more than 80 megawatts of electricity was shut off, based on current estimates.

Apparently they are high enough to make record profits.

We about to find out just how much teeth the PSC has.

Not how that works. It’s part of the deal with regulated utilities. They have to invest in improvements. If they don’t, then you’ll end up with a credit on your bill. It’s happened before.

The article said they deferred projects and laid off employees.

Entergy has an entire staff of private pilots that have been on the payroll during the entire pandemic. Problem is they haven’t been flying... at all. A guy down the street just sits home everyday doing nothing while all of our bills go up. They’re completely out of control. They saw an 11% increase because people had to stay home all of the fricking time using more a/c and lights. It’s not hard to figure out.

This is an interesting point. There has been a strange dynamic shift in load profiles with WFH. More home consumption, less commercial and a pause in industrial that’s come raging back. I haven’t looked into aggregated load numbers yet but if anyone has it I would gladly read it.
