I know this thread will be eventually moved to the Movie/TV board but given the number of WWII threads we have on tOT, I thought it would be good to share here first.

HBO premiered a new documentary on the 8th Air Force. it is simply incredible. The restored war footage is captivating. Highly recommend

OT rookie here, but by far the best use I’ve seen of it so far. I actually added this to my HBO now queue last night with the intent of watching it this week.

This documentary was amazing.

My Great Grandfather was a B-17 pilot, was shot down over France, bailed and was picked up by the Nazis and sent to POW camp until Patton’s army liberated his camp.

When I was young he had given me a lot of his POW papers/momentos from the war and he was always my hero. He passed away when I was about 14 so I never really was old enough to understand exactly what he went through up there or ask him the questions to know. So considering I’ve always wished I would’ve asked him more questions about the war, this documentary for me was awesome to really help understand what it was like up there.

Can’t recommend enough.

This makes me happy. My Grandpa was in the Mighty 8th and I'll be able to watch it with him and get the running color commentary

There are rumors Tom Hanks and Spielberg are making a mini-series for HBO similar to Band of Brothers and The Pacific about the 8th.

That rumor has been around for over a decade now... I'll believe it when they start filming

My Dad was in the 8th Air Force on a B-17 during WW II. Finished the war as a member of the Lucky Bastards’ Club having flown at least 35 missions.
