Assuming you are from Vermilion Parish. How many "redneck flags" did you see in living rooms? I have lived there and can't think of a single fricking house where it was displayed in or outside. Either you are making shite up or have shitty friends.
Also, I think the people that patriotism matters to are the ones that have served the military or had family members that did so. So an occasional sign of actual fricking respect is appreciated by members of that community. Maybe it's actually people that give a shite about preserving heritage of this country. Finally, you realize it was democrats that defended slavery and was defeated by the Republicans - if that was your intended reason for injecting the confederate flag comment.

As a former military guy I do tend to look down on disrespecting the flag but for me the National Anthem is more about preserving a simple acknowledgement that for all of our differences, for all of our faults...we are still ONE country.
If the residents of that small town want to stop traffic, then so be it...

My point is that the same morons protesting the NFL because of kneelers and flag disrespecters display a flag that fought against the United States of America.
Don’t get me wrong. Not all do it. But it’s something I laugh at occasionally
