We’re shopping for a golden and would love some recommendations.

We live in NOLA and have gotten a few small radius suggestions but in interest of a quality breeder, I’m expanding the search.

I’ve heard to stay away from a particular breeder on the Northshore but would like some suggestions based on positive experiences.

Most of these breeder websites look like they were built at the dawn of the internet and I can’t take them seriously.

So.... they’ve been around for a while and probably know what they’re doing but you can’t take them seriously bc their website was made a few years back?

If they don’t have a MySpace page, they’re probably not legitimate. Look elsewhere.

We got ours out of Lake Charles/Houston. Split breeder. Aubergine Goldens. Good experience. Not a mill. Maybe only a litter or two a year. They show their dogs.

I fostered some puppy golden retrievers that all had some skin condition around their face that made them all lose their fur. They looked almost alien like.
I can't remember what it was that they had, but essentially they just had some type of immune condition that they couldn't fight off this whatever that made them lose their fur.
All it took was about 2 months of I think antibiotics and then they all looked like normal retrievers.
I wish I had a good before/after picture to post.

This is always thrown around but in my experience trying to adopt is such a pain in the arse that it seems like they're trying to convince you to shop. "Thank you for your interest in adopting a puppy! We'll need to run a background check, a credit check, 2 in person interviews, a pre and post adoption house visit, and your first born."

I know a guy who went through an interview, met the dog he was planning on adopting, then was denied because during a home inspection he had like 6 acres for the dog to run on, but it wasn't 100% fenced. frick all that.

Prepare yourself for the assholes that will guilt trip you into not finding some abused stray instead

True, there is a questionnaire typically, but this is all in the pet's best interest. Most adoption groups have seen quite of bit of sad stories and they just don't want the pet to end right back up in the same situation the pet was rescued from.
Sorry, not sorry. But if you can't handle the simple things, like being able to properly provide for the pet, then you shouldn't have one.
And letting a dog out to roam the streets is not properly providing for one.
