Yes, valves, resurfacing drill collars, re-threading, etc. Downhole tools. There's a good bit.

Been in the upstream production sector since 1989. It's provided me and my family a nice living. First 9 years were offshore, last 24 years in the office. Never been laid off or missed a paycheck. I consider myself lucky and hope to retire oilfield trash.
Good luck to everyone considering the jump back in!

Cool. If there really is a boom in the horizon, I may look into it. I've been feeling pretty stagnant with what we're doing lately.

What are jobs And companies I should be looking for? I’m graduating college in May, prefer to be on-land.

Any legit trucking companies? I could be persuaded to get behind the wheel.

Let’s see some numbers and an effective $/hr rate.

Shite, I took about a 45% pay cut after 2015. In 2020 took another 20% cut for “Covid”, and now my company gave me back 12.5% on day rate and 5% on salary and called it a raise. Had to laugh at them in the raise part. Biatch you just giving me back part of my money that you took.

I’ve been in the oil business for 25 years non stop. I need this boom to last about 5 years and I’ll ride off into the sunset. Unlike many, I’ve never bought anything stupid or spent unwisely. I drive a used economy car that sold for less than 20k brand new. All of that said, I’ll probably retire and drop dead 2 weeks later.

I tell folks being in the oil field is like being in the mob. You get to make a really good living, you get to see really cool stuff and occasionally they try and get rid of you.

Take my advice, especially if you’re just getting started. Stay away from the oilfield.
It’s just boom then bust, rinse and repeat. I have as stable a job as you can get and I think I’ve been through 7+ cutbacks.

I know you won’t listen, but I tried…

You're luckier than me. We took a 30% covid cut and haven't seen a dime back. I don't even think about the cuts we took around 2015 anymore. If you even talk about it they laugh. After 27 years, I'm tired of begging.

Marine side for supply boats and drillships are starting to see 2013 day rates again. Captains around 1000/day. Mates/DPOs around 800/day
