you can roll your eyes man, but the fact is everyone here is bothered by this creepy frick, what he said, and the fact it was not brought up during the meetings - whereas you are hung up on a "sensationalist" word used in an article, and focusing on that.

The funny thing is, it’s not even sensational utilized in the context of the situation.

Because I find it to be unnecessary and sensationalist.

It's 100% inappropriate, that doesn't need to be said. But I don't see diminishment here. Not sorry

it's roughly the equivalent of patting her on the head and calling her little lady. i didnt watch the video, but i presume she wasnt there in the capacity of a beauty pageant contestant, so to address her looks in that manner is, yes, to somewhat diminish her role in the proceedings, whatever they may have been.

i get what you're saying, and i would generally agree with the concept you are pushing here, but i think you're wrong on this one for the reason i stated above.

if he had said the same thing to the same girl walking down the street, i would say "creepy but not diminishment", but in this context, i think it was.

What a goofy take. It is absolutely diminishing and dismissive to call a woman of any age “hot” while they are speaking and making a point at a school board meeting or any other similar context. Try it at your next work meeting and get back to us.

It is reinforcing the misogynistic idea that a woman’s only worth is in her looks. Literally diminishing her value to a single aspect.

See, you can't even commit to it being fully diminishing. You want to agree with me but not get downvotes

I'm not concerned about the objectifying nonsense.

The concerning part is in the title of the thread. Adults should not be hitting on the students.

Fwiw I assumed before opening the thread it was going to be an adult woman and a male student because that's been the recent history

Get those buzzwords in. You're only reinforcing my point.

no i fully disagree with you here, in this context.

i will say that whoever said "what we saw was shocking. He objectified and diminished a young woman publicly" was being overly-sensationalistic and indignant, didnt give it as much critical thought as i probably did, and was only accidentally right. but right nonetheless.

What the frick else do you think calling someone hot is? That's literally all he said. If he had said "damn I wanna bend you over this desk" or something else, sure. That's not what happened though as far as I can see.

“Hot” in our culture implies a sexual connotation. And the context in which he said it, there really is no mistaking what he meant.

Since you brought up the context of what they were doing when the creep called a girl hot to make it "diminishing," how would you say it compares to this situation?

my two cents is that the guy is just a hillbilly rube that probably just has no filter and meant no disrespect, if you asked the girl she’d probably either be indifferent or maybe thought it was funny, I could be wrong though

Thats a college student athlete talking to a grown woman. Not exactly the same as some geezer and a high school student. “Arent you pretty” would have been more appropriate than calling someone young enough to be your granddaughter “hot.”
