Former 2018 5.0 coyote owner here. Had both solenoid and lifter issues resulting in misfire . The truck sounded like a diesel at idle . Ford refuses to acknowledge an issue and states that it’s normal operating sound yet felt the need to do a TSB on it. I now have 6.2 gmc and look forward to the same issues .

Yeah. I’m not sure what to do. I’m getting to where I don’t trust the Ford and I travel for work. But the last thing I want is to buy something and spend $70k on something that is going to be the same or worse. I guess I’d at least have a warranty with new.

I’ve spent about $5k in the past year trying to get the Ford right.

damn! was looking at Chevy trucks this past weekend, it could have been me!

There also seems to be an issue with the fuel pump module (I think thats it) that is affecting a lot of GM products. These are actually leaving people stranded.

Can you imagine paying $95k for a GMC/Chevy Denali/High Country and getting stranded?

One of the (older) performance 6.2L is the way to go. No AFM garbage.

Is it being used on the 6.6 gas engines on HD models?

I drive a 10-year-old Hyundai and my engine just stopped one day driving down the highway. Basically turned into a giant paperweight. Managed to cruise for a half mile and pull off onto some farm property.

They just replaced my whole engine under recall with about 105K miles on it. Took about 2 months because they kept demanding more pictures of various engine parts trying to get out of it, but they ultimately did it.

Got some long overdue brake service with it and ended up paying ~$600 for $5K worth of parts and labor in all.

By a tune or depending on the year they make disablers that plug into the OBD port.
Either way, this does not solve the issue or reduce the risk of collapsing an AFM lifter as the crap lifters are still inside the engine. To actually fix the issue, you must do an AFM delete. Among other things, an AFM delete replaces the AFM lifters with standard non-AFM lifters.

If GM solved this lifter issue, they would arguably have the most reliable V8 currently being produced. Just like the Gen 3 LSs were in the early 2000s.

Every engine that was super reliable is either discontinued or made unreliable due to government standards.

They have known this for years. They refuse to let go of this technology or incorporate additional devices to keep everything lubed up. It is amazing they had the small block from the 1950's that had no issues.

federal government has to take some blame due to EPA Fuel requirements.
People need v8 power but they push the manufacturers to reduce fuel consumption on these vehicles.

if people want to have 14 MPG trucks let them have them. They are the ones paying the fuel cost.

I’d rather a turbo V6 than a V8 that shuts off cylinders. I know the ecoboost has had it’s own problems tho

You can fix it beforehand, you have to reprogram the ECM to delete AFM, then change out the lifters and I believe the cam as well.

I will go one better... Any warranty should be extended 3 years beyond the longest duration that the finance companies will finance the vehicle for -- Hey Ford Motor Credit, you want to offer financing on Expeditions for 84 months, guess what... you're going to provide a warranty for 120 months - unlimited milage.

Hey GM, you want to offer 72 months financing on that Escalade? You're going to provide a warranty for 108 months.

That will make the automakers provide a better product at a better price.

Full-size if I had to buy tomorrow would be the 3.5 unfortunately.

The 3.5 is a cheaply-made piece of shite but sounds like it’s not the only one. Plastic fricking parts in the coolant system, plastic connectors on transmission oil lines, etc.. it’s an embarrassment.

And I didn’t mention the camphasers that have been an issue for 15 fkn yrs.

A lot of issues in 2021 with lifter failures in the 5.3s.

I’ve thought about buying a fairly new GM and replacing top end, issue being seller wouldn’t discount for know deficiencies of lifters and 100k like transmission rebuild. It’s a shame this shite needs discussing.

Sorry to hear. Not all 5.0 Coyote engines after 2021 have auto start/stop, or cylinder deactivation. This was due to to a shortage of circuit boards during covid. My 2022 does not have either feature.

I have a 2015 Ram and it has a similar feature where it “knocks out” some of the cylinders for better fuel economy. I’m not mechanically inclined so idk how it differs from a Chevy? My Ram has 120k miles on it and I haven’t had any issues.

I'm assuming you have the Hemi V8? I'll admit my ignorance to Mopar V8s but I imagine the cylinder deactivation is similar to the GM V8s.

If it's actually a V6 I have even less of a clue. Maybe someone here can chime in.
