GM owners - Have you experienced the "Chevy Shake"?

Owners report that it feels like riding on the shoulder warning track. It reportedly happens in the GM 8-speed transmissions. Some think it may be the factory torque converter, some say the drive shaft, some the transmission fluid. There is currently a class-action lawsuit pending for this issue. Any of you baws experience this?

Yes. Originally thought it was the roads I was taking daily (lots of construction), but then took a road trip on smooth highways and realized it was my truck. It only occurs at a certain RPM range (1800-2100) but it's annoying as hell.

they are going to change your transmission oil in hopes to get you past your warranty period.

Is this happening to brand new GM vehicles?

This is how they do it. I had an 09 Tahoe with the last infamous hydraulic lifters issue. They started giving me trouble right before my warranty ran out. They did something and told me it was fixed. 2,000 miles later, and now out of warranty, they suddenly determined that I needed the heads rebuilt. It took weeks of wrangling with Chevy to get them to cover 50% of the repair. Should have been fixed the first time.

Is that like the Ford death wobble?
Posted on 3/16/20 at 9:52 am to tommy2tone1999
I had this issue on my GMC once. Was perfectly fine when I bought it but then gradually started with the vibrations at certain rpm/speed ranges. Finally figured out it was the u-bolt on the drive shaft. One way to isolate the problem is to see if you get the same vibrations when accelerating vs coasting. If they’re different then you probably need to take it in to get the u-bolt tightened. That was probably about a year a half ago and been completely fine ever since.
Edit: This was a 2017 GMC Sierra.

This. i never noticed at what RPM but mine will do it when I reach my target speed and then start letting off the gas a little. Seems to always be around 45-55 mph....

It's a problem for the 8 speed transmissions from 2017-2019. About 1 in 5 of the models with an 8 speed have a shake problem. No issues with the 6 or 10 speeds.
Chevrolet won't replace the 8 speeds until after they unsuccessfully try a full flush. For some reason, that seems to resolve it in many cases.
Oddly enough, the programming for the 10 speed co-developed with Ford seems to be wrought with issues in the F-150. No issues in most other Ford models, and very few in the GM products that use the same hardware.

Sound like the ole Dodge issue from a few years back that they refused to admit or work on

Only problem with my ‘15 Silverado is the damn seat warmer, “butt part” keeps going out..
I can live that, back part still works..

Yes, wife's(sorry, no pics) Yukon at approx 40k miles. Changed trans fluid under warranty, 15k miles later, no issues...

Yes I’ve experienced it, 2016 Chevy. When I bring it in they say they can’t replicate it because it requires speed in excess of 70.

"Death Wobble" is a term widely used to describe the shacking and bouncing of any vehicle with a solid front axle. This is not just a Ford thing.

That's the front axle shake. It happens on a lot of trucks with solid front axles, but it's prevalent in Fords because of cheap axle and suspension components.

My Subaru doesn't have a "back" part, but the butt part of the warmer went out a lot. It turned out that the wire harness connector was loose. It was not routed the same way as the passenger side and appears to have gotten loosened when the seat was adjusted.
It's an easy fix if you have access to someone with tiny hands.
