That’s 597,630 engines at $12,000 per engine. Thats over $7,000,000,000.

Not all of those engines are out of spec, so they won’t all be replaced. It’s a big deal, but it’s not anywhere near THAT big.

Those 4.8s were really good too, but I understand why everyone would rather the 5.3.

4.8 and 5.3 are the same engine minus the crankshaft

can't fix the lifter issues.

Actually moving away from a variable displacement oil pump seemed to fix this….or at least make it so rare that it doesn’t really matter. Those lifters need clean, low viscosity oil.

Ford is going to do that to fix the lifter issues in the 7.3L V8 too.

I welcome them returning to sanity and fixing their current V8 lineup.

The 6.2L V8 failures have been an embarrassment.

How can you frick up the best V8 platform on the planet (the small block chevy)?

No, they are not. That is the possible pool out of the 877,000 6.2L sold. It is a manufacturing defect and not a design flaw. If the engine is not showing signs of the issue, they are simply changing to a heavier oil. The heavier oil mitigates the cause.

Here is a good video describing it

The video is a guy who is WAAAYY out of his lane.

There is more going on here than he realized. Changing the viscosity that much in a VVT engine also changes the extremes of cam timing permitted by the system. In turn, that changes cylinder pressure profiles, and reduces loads on the mains, among many other things.

They’ll still never top the Coyote

I've always been a German car snob, but the Coyote engine is a freaking thing of technological beauty.

variable displacement oil pump

The single biggest piece of shite design feature to be put inside of an engine in rememberable history. frick I hate those things.

Got 221k on mine. About to hit 222k.

04 Silverado. And yes the rockers are rusted out along with the cab corners.

[quote]What preventative maintenance do you perform and what parts have you changed out since 0 miles?[/quote

I bought new in 2002. 10w30 every 10k miles up until 200k when lifters started tapping LOUD. Like hard to order at drive thru loud. I swapped to Shell Rotella 15w40 heavy duty diesel oil which stopped tapping. I then started changing oil every 5k and filter every 10k since. Every 100k mikes I change plugs, wires, etc. truck is on third transmission (1st at 30k, rebuild at 105k). Rear main seal at 300k. For most part I ignore service engine soon light which has been on for last 15-18 years. Early on it was O2 sensor which I eventually changed. Last 10-12 years I haven’t read the code to see what it is. I love the truck but I’m to the point now I’m just curious to see how many miles I can get before it dies.
