We just went through a strike. Three unions representing the outfit I work for, one went on strike shutting the operation down. They settled for less than was offered the day after their health insurance no longer would be covered.

Bunch of low IQ minions who understand silly union language, but have no knowledge of economics.

All of these are priced about the same for comparable models, but not all are unionized. So, I am not sure you can blame the union for the pricing.

That's nice. No where in my post did I blame the union for the pricing. In fact, I didn't blame anyone for the pricing or even infer that there was a problem with the pricing for which to blame someone in the first place. I was simply saying to the poster that says GM is "price gouging" that it is basically impossible for them to do so.

definition of a strike:

no work and the expectation of no pay

benefits are part of pay

if you elect to leave work, shutting down production, how then do you expect to still get paid.

However, the UAW can ask for the benefit pay to be retroed back after a new contract is signed......

Yeah, I didn't mean it towards you. I just used your post because it was the last one and it listed all the manufacturers. It was meant more for the guy who posted about the price gouging.

Understood. I've battled unions my whole career so it's a personal subject for me and I get a little amped up about it.

Hire non union workers, production may increase, but quality will decrease. Recalls will be out the roof and they will lose money anyway. I’ve been Union my whole career, but to each his own I guess.

Having to cover members' health benefits is really going to cut into the union leadership slush fund.

Hmm. Hasn't affected Toyota and others. Did you think this thru before you posted it?

To be fair, most recalls are for parts and not assembly. Like the air bag recall or the seatbelt buckle recall.

Its not just the cost of your portion plus your employers portion, there are massive admin fees to allow it to be retroactive.

I thought cobra was limited to something like 103% of the cost of employers plus employee portion.

that's what's being overlooked here, cashflow is the life blood of the union, cash comes from payroll deduction of gainfully employed membership, when the paychecks stop, that cashflow dries up real quick

Just kidding. They were easily the best (or least worst) union I've had to deal with.

do not want this discussion to go down the shitter but I've seen a lot of union/company interaction over the length of my career, the union is always the bad guy in the public eye because when everyone hears "union" they think Jimmy Hoffa, teamsters, et al, but I've seen in most cases that the "company" is well versed in sleazy, underhanded, hardball tactics, such to the point that the unions learn from them

Perhaps the union could reallocate the millions in improperly diverted funds diverted by union leaders for their personal gain to cover the insurance costs.

Back in the day, companies used hired thugs to break up union marches and protests. The unions needed muscle, so they turned to organized crime. That's how the mob got into the union tent.
