It wasn't like he was some accountant who drives a Lumina to work.
He'd even paced it before:

But he's in good company. Juan Pablo Montoya ran over a jet dryer once.

I’ve tried to start watching American open wheel racing again and I happened to be watching this disaster unfold. Seems like even with no Danicant and better looking cars, the IRL still can’t live down its amateur hour reputation.
