The only way for true communism to work is if literally every nation in the world "participated". That concept is built into the very beginnings of the philosophy. It is a closed system, if any nation didn't want to participate, it would fail.
Second, inherent in it is that you would have to FORCE people to participate. The pie in the sky philosophy is that everyone would just go with it.
That isn't the case, and it is counter-intuitive to human nature and "survival of the fittest".
The only way to achieve it is to essentially destroy freedoms. And we all know how much leftists hate freedom.

I will concede and say that when Skynet and the Terminators take over, pure communism will be the ideal and perfect philosophy.
Unfortunately for the leftist, humans are not machines so it will NEVER work. Pretty much all human nature has to be destroyed for communism to come close to working.
