An older, fatter American population prefers the higher seat of an SUV.
The cars:
Cadillac CT6
Cadillac XTS
Buick Lacrosse
Chevy Volt
Chevy Cruze
Chevy Impala

GM plans to halt production next year at three assembly plants: the Lordstown small-car factory near Youngstown, Ohio; the Detroit-Hamtramck complex in Detroit; and the Oshawa, Ontario, assembly complex near Toronto. It will also stop building several models now assembled at those plants, including the Chevrolet Cruze, the Chevrolet Volt hybrid, the Cadillac CT6 and the Buick LaCrosse. The Cruze compact car will be discontinued in the U.S. market in 2019, although GM may continue building it in Mexico for other markets, Barra said.

Through the end of September, Chevrolet Impala sales fell 13.4 percent, year to date. Compared to the model’s high water mark of 2007, however, the Impala’s Q3 figure is 82.4 percent lower than in the same period of that heady year. Chevy Cruze sales fell 25.6 percent, year to date, in 2018, but the loss grows to 56.8 percent if you contrast it with Q3 2014 figures. 2014 was the Cruze’s best sales year.

Getting rid of the Cruze is interesting. What are they replacing it with in the Chevy lineup?

I think they will guide buyers towards the Equinox instead.

I drive a fullsize truck. I have no issues with SUV’s.

I’m just giving my opinion. They clearly think people would rather a crossover.

Isn't the Volt an electric vehicle? I see very few on the road.
I don't think electric vehicles will have a 30% market share in my lifetime unless the government mandates it.

How many Equinoxes did GM sell over the first three quarters of 2018? 234,379. Put another way, that’s roughly 38,000 more sales than the six GM sedans put together.
