but why not take steps to reduce our impact just in case a lot of people smarter than me are actually right?
Exactly. Worst case scenario, we have cleaner air to breathe and a generally cleaner environment
I can support this. We should encourage efficiency in machines in any way we can. It benefits everyone.
But carbon credits and taxes are bullshite politics. Nothing else. And China and Co don't give a damn about the US's carbon footprint.
Same as giving out huge subsidies to "solar panel" manufacturers without so much as a shred of documented evidence that their product can solve the problems that plague the tech just because it "looks good."

For those that think we will be submerged due to melting ice caps i have a few questions? How much ice at the caps is above sea level? What is the land mass size of our oceans? How much water flows into the Gulf every day from the Mississippi? How much from the other great rivers like the Amazon,Nile and St Lawrence? Why aren't we already submerged from the daily amount of water that flows into our oceans?

It may be completely out of our control honestly and we're simply on a path to a reset on planet earth.
The problem is that it's a global problem. It's not simply a USA problem. China and Russia don't give a shite. The USA can implement all these strict (liberal) policies but it won't mean anything (assuming they are practical) because we'd basically be alone in moving forward. Europe is basically there, but that doesn't mean shite either. The problem is that there's too much money involved globally and some countries don't give a shite.

That's the real debate. We're having trouble getting there because a lot of people straight up deny that it's even happening. This thread is a great example.
It's really sad that it's so closely associated with politics - it makes a lot of ignorant people even more uninformed and stupid than they already are.
I'm a republicannnn so global warming is fake I tell ya!!!!

There are people who actually believe in this global warming bullshite that has been proven time and again to use manipulated data and whose promoters have openly admitted it is a tool to temper capitalism and control corporations? You are a sheep.

This goes back to my statement of the arrogance that one understands a complex macro system the size of the earth. You don't know, therefore any your solution you put forth is a guess at the very best. My denial/acceptance has nothing to do with the fact that no science has pointed to a smoking gun of climate change or a solution to fix it.
The "we have to do something even if it's not the real solution" is fricking retarded.

For the record I believe in climate. It's the anthropogenic part of the argument where i disagree.

That shitty politicians use it for shitty political gain doesn't change facts. Sorry bub

NASA said in 2015 that the ice caps were gaining mass. So.... Also your little graph only shows 120 years of temps. If you provide a wider range of dates you would see that this kind of increase in temperature is not out of the ordinary. The earth has been around for billions of years, to use a graph of 100 years of info is ridiculous. You have to use a larger sample size.

I agree - but we see how much China cares about quality of breathing air, so good luck there. Russia is more worried about which war they plan to fight next, with their alpha male president stuck in the 1950s.
USA is going to have to be the pioneer here like always.
I really think Elon Musk is on the right path, just not sure if he can do it alone. I hope he gets us in the right direction.

A great question and one there might not even be an answer to. The issue now is people outright denying FACTS that the earth is gradually warming. You have to have universal "agreement" there before any possible solutions can come to the table
This is exactly the same argument with "white privilege" issue.
99% of the agenda is focused on "acceptance" and 1% is focused on doing something productive.
Unfortunately, any solution put forth ends up having to be enforced at the end of a gun.

It's always been a hoax to advance the liberal agenda.
Glad you are now catching up.

More deflection from the mindless GW lemmings.
No solutions because they can't define the actual problem.

Didn't major in environmental sciences in college. Did take a few courses related to the subject though a couple years ago , and I'm sure there's someone on here more qualified to explain the combo of factors like erosion, plate tectonics, etc

Yeah, the hard data that is constantly revealed to be politically influenced
