U.S. crude stocks are now near 450 million barrels, the equivalent of over two months' worth of Chinese crude imports.

People in here will say the following:

Good. The oil companies been colluding to screw us over for years. I am glad the oil companies now for some reason lost their abatract, hard to quantify, power to collude and for some reason are facing hardship.

I don't see why skilled workers should make in excess of 80,000 a year and it bothers me for some reason that they can buy F-250s. I went to a state university and make the equivalent of them per year but I use their lack of a college degree to belittle them. They also work in a cyclical industry so I will make sure they are aware of this fact as a reason not to have the natural human reaction of stressing out that they are unemployed, because I am glad I have a windfall of $500 a year at the pump.

Is this a joke? Oil companies employ lots of graduates too.

It's because they're skilled. That's kinda the point of being skilled.

Perhaps you meant unskilled?

The nb4 thing means that other people in here are going to say that. I agree with you, but like I said, I don't work in the oilfield.

Your jealousy is showing.

High risk, high reward. If your from Louisiana and post this crap I would ask that you take a look at what the O&G industry does for this state and many of it's residents.

BTW, I know many workers in this industry with degrees.

Edit: Damn, missed the inb4 part. I do Apologize for my rant.

Of course There are. There's tons of highly educated oil and gas folks. I think they mean the rough neck types when they speak of what Lou was saying.

I work in the oilfield and make an excess of 100k a yr. Without a college degree. I know oilfield workers that dont even have a high school diploma & make close to 200k a yr. What people dont understand is most of us are away from our families for months and make many sacrifices to give our families better lives. Yes the oilfield is down and haters are abound and when the oilfield bounces back the haters will still be there lol

Meh. As long as its good people who appreciate the opportunity and take care of their money/finances wisely then I think its absolutely wonderful. I think its just the trashy types who scoff at college graduates as "suckers" that get under people's skin. No, I've never encountered this sort, but I think that's what causes the "haters". That's great you're making a wonderful sacrifice for your family, and I hope your family appreciates it.

For all the haters that think its stupid for skilled trades to make over 80k a year, consider this...

It's a simple value proposition. Would you pay some one an additional 40k a year if you were certain that 40k worth of skill would buy you an additional 1MM$ worth of production in up time?

Sure you would, you'd be insane not to. Consider supply and demand. There are only so many exceptionally skilled electricians. The trades pay because of supply and demand. Simple as that.
