I have loved Glacier National Park since my first visit when I was 17. For reference, im 50 now. Lol.
Hate to hear about the littering. Glacier is a special place.

I was planning on being there right now but the Sturgis rally is going on or was this past weekend and I didn't want to deal with all that shite. Next year.

I took my friends on my whirlwind tour a couple weeks ago. I developed this for people who want to see the park but aren't into overnight backcountry trips (the only way to really appreciate all that GNP really is, IMO). We stay in Whitefish or Columbia Falls and get to the park entrance by 5am.
You get to see GTTSR without traffic and at sunrise. Then do day hikes at Many and St Mary (and Two Medicine if headed back down to Missoula and have time--we skipped that this time).
By the time we were coming back from first hike it was like a Manhattan sidewalk near the trailhead. And on our return trip on GTTSR it was like Disney. People were grilling on the side of the road because picnic spots were full, Logan Pass parking lot was full, etc.
This may be the last year I do it. Backcountry or bust.

First or second week of October is always the best time to go to Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Yosemite.
Crowds are gone and you usually see a little snow.

Everyone wants to see the glacier before it melts due to global warming
I'm willing to bet your average GNP visitor doesn't know the difference between a glacier and a snow field.

As someone who frequents Glacier, reports like this give mixed emotions. I love the idea of more people in this country getting in touch with nature and enjoying its natural wonders. However, many of these individuals do not show up mentally prepared, treating these parks like they are their personal playgrounds, throwing rocks around, leaving trash behind, and hiking off trails.
Agree 100%. I saw all of the above.

We just got the attendance report for July, and for the first time in Glacier Park history, over 1 million visitors came to the park in a single month.
North cascades is as scenic and not nearly as overcrowded

I know numerous hikes in MT and ID that are incredible and you won't see a soul. Of course, the draw of glacier is having so many imposing peaks and breathtaking formations concentrated in a relatively small area (compared to spread out across a state). And being able to see grizzlies without much risk of getting eaten (due to hazing) is pretty cool. But I am definitely done with summer trips there.

I lived and worked in Glacier for a summer, change my life. My favorite place in the world. Hike Brown mountain, almost died, and did several 30+ mile hikes. The best part about that park is you have to get your fatass out of the car to see it.
Also The Bob is an amazing place too and doesn't get nearly the traffic. Stanton lake is a short hike but great fishing and few people.

What is it like to live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet?

My most vivid memories are of the stars, and watching satellites go round. Also momma and 3 cubs treeing me on the firebrand pass. Fished every day for 6 months, doesnt get much better than that.

It's such a beautiful park, but I'm really surprised by this much attendance. It's not like it's centrally located and it's a nightmare to get from one side of the park to the other.

Thinking about taking the wife out for our anniversary next year. Can you or Black and Gold give me some pointers of what to or not to do, just basically some tips to make it a great of a trip as i think it will be.

No it's not.
I've been to NC and while it is scenic, it's not nearly as vast and diverse as what you see in the backcountry of Glacier.
It sounds like you never ventured off the road. We call folks like you window see'ers.

That's kind of a loaded question

It's pretty confusing to say the least.
But a TON of visitors come from Canada.
