One of these days I'm gonna make it up that way. A buddy of mine works for USFS in Moose Pass.

Like Glacier Bay, Glacier NP is also a UNESCO world heritage site, one of the first listed biosphere reserves, the first international peace park ever created, as well as being one of 5 spots in the world with a triple divide. Plus, it's the first listed international/transboundary dark sky park in the world.

And even more...
It's considered the crown jewel of North America

While Alaska is incredible, nobody should discount Glacier NP for being "average to North Cascades."

Quite frankly, it's not even close.

Slightly off topic, but it always amazes/fascinates me to see the unique and diverse posters who somehow find this board. Very cool. Now my interest is peaked and I want to go to Glacier National Park....

ETA: I'm FWS employee it's just funny to see you support your park.

I was part of those record numbers. Wish I had spent more time there. We ended up driving up to Banff as well. Glacier is amazing and definitely a park that requires getting out the car to truly enjoy all of its beauty. I will definitely be back and plan for more time.

The only real hike we did was the Iceberg Lake trail and did a polar plunge when we got to the lake. Absolutely amazing. I was planning to do Grinnel the next day, but the kids were beat and weren't too happy about another hike.

What the hell ate you talking about?

Saying NC is as scenic as Glacier isn't a knock on Glacier at all, and there is nothing average about either.

But they arent as stellar as parks in BC , the Yukon or Alaska

I came off the ferry in Haines last May (like first week of May, maybe last day or so in April)

Drove to Haines Junction, let me tell you maybe it was just the effect of the gray weather in SE AK, but the mountains and snow from the drive to Haines Junction might have been the whitest snow tops I've ever seen.

To this day that trip was probably the most gorgeous drive I've been on.

When I think about Glacier, I always remember the long Sports Illustrated article about the grizzly attacks back in the '60s. iirc, two girls were killed on successive nights by grizzlies.

Put rafting the Tatshinsheni on your bucket list. It's about a 10 day adventure but worth it.

I thought you were talking about record temperatures in the park when I first opened this thread.

I worked at Glacier in 1992 and 1993. I saw the attendance figures for just 1997 to 2016 and they blow me away. Lake McD was a great place to work.
