I did this moreso out of an act of love, even though it was quite emotionally taxing. It takes a lot more courage to appreciate that she is not getting the life she deserves because you are bed bound a lot of the time.

You keep giving yourself backhanded compliments. Go to bed old man. Get a cat.

Sorry you had to give away your dog. Sounds like you did the right thing.

First, I do not like cats. They have no loyalty to anything but themselves.

Second, call me old man all you want. I am probably the one with the advanced education and financial assets while you are up to your ears in debt.

Overall, I have had a good life and seen things you will never see. Mind your manners, son.

Yeah I did. My son picked her up and delivered her. The guy who lost his lab to death was overcome with emotion. Obviously, Maggie was a little nervous but warmed up. I made someone else happy as will the dog. I put her feelings and life above my own feelings and wants. interestingly, I did a lot of mourning beforehand and am actually at peace right now. The recipient is an engineer who has a dog go every where he does. She'll do just fine.

maybe my non couragement could be the best thing that ever happens to him. He keeps the dog, takes care of maggie better and then one day maggie saves OP's life by biting an intruder. I can literally be saving this dude's life yet i'm the a-hole here.

This just got real.....

Sorry to hear that, but good on you for doing right by the dog. You're a good man.

That’s good. We love our dogs, one came from a pound, and another from a ditch. They are in our family because their lives mattered to someone that rescued them.
