I'll never, ever understand this sentiment. You gotta do what's right for you.

My last boss was a great guy and great boss, but when the opportunity to better myself came along I strolled in his office to give my two weeks like it was Christmas.

The only thing I did because I even remotely "felt bad" was offer to stay 3 weeks instead of 2 because of a project that needed to be presented during the 3rd week that would put him and everyone in the office in a major bind if I didn't follow though.

lol if it is this or picking up odd jobs in the home Depot lot?

I am always fearful that easy white collar life is going to end and I can run the blue collar work like I did as a highschooler

thanks dad

I went this route because I thought it may be something I could go back to school for and build on but I realised I want no part of this industry. I am going back to school when I start my new gig. Will be online but I don't really care.

Still no reason to lie. It's not that hard, man. Just tell him you have a great opportunity and you couldn't pass it up. Nothing more, nothing less

no problem I will give you more info when its official. I can tell them I have someone that may fill the hole but I can't endorse someone I don't really know. if you get that.

I understand. Thanks again.

If I get this, I could work that job and do my contract work at night. Making dough.

So I am putting in my 2 weeks notice today. Since starting actual "real" professional jobs at age 23 I have never actually had to do this. I was laid off at age 25 and then again in 2015. I feel that I have everything prepared to do it the right way but can't help to feel like I am abandoning my boss. Any advice?

Thank them for the opportunity, state that you've enjoyed your time and appreciate the knowledge and experience you've earned through the job.

If you have a good boss it's not a bad idea to make them aware that you are job-hunting ahead of time just to that they aren't blind-sided by your notice.

If your boss is a dick, to hell with him. Be sure to jerk off into his coffee before you leave.

I cannot think of one good reason to do this. Best case scenario your boss who you are about to not work for anymore appreciates it? Worst case they get upset and you lose your job before you have something else lined up for no reason.

I don't think this would ever be a good idea unless you work for family or a very close friend. What happens when you don't find a job you want and now you're staying at a place that knows you have one foot out the door?

If your boss is a decent person he/she will be happy for you.
