Girls who do cosplay

Lately I've seen some legit >8/10 girls on IG who could be.. "social media influencers," have onlyfans or w/e but they do cosplay instead: what's the motivation, just to be big fish in a small pond since there's not many attractive girls competing for nerds' attention? I'm skeptical of the premise that girls can be nerds in the same way guys can; I think they have to deliberately choose to be that way
