I don’t know.

Side rant completely unrelated.

If I call your business and a person says “I’ll reach out to…” you just guaranteed I’m not fricking with you anymore.

I don’t want you to reach out. I want you to handle it. You answered the phone with the implication you could solve my problem. That’s why I called you and pressed x.

Don’t sit there and raise your hand waiting to be called on. Don’t wave at the passing boat.

Whatever “reach out” means.

Get it done. Take personal responsibility. Be a fricking grown up. Not even a badass. Just a normal functioning adult.

Or tell ya what. Give me that guys number. That’s even better.

Business men. Business women. Be aggressive. Fix your clients stuff.

Rant over. Whatever. Okay boomer. I’m old. I’m not. I’m a fricking baby and I’m your boss. Take some gd responsibility and solve the problem.

Gift yourself some balls and do it now.

Gift. Do it now. Not -“I’ll be gifting myself some balls this year. Maybe in 14 years I can use them”. Just gift them and then get my shite done.

The saying is “take responsibility “.

Not “reach out” for someone else to save my arse on a simple gd thing that I can do but I’m too big of a weenie to exercise any modicum of autonomy “

While I agree with everything you said here.... I can't imagine the Monday or Tuesday you had

To be fair, the caller may be listing the next steps they're going to take to solve your problem. Likely not given the rant, but just looking at it semi-positively.

It's not as inevitable as it sounds. Some languages (Russian and French, for example) have a controlling committee that sets the standard. They can't prevent people from speaking improperly, but they can and do set clear norms of what is correct.

These committees will sometimes update rules of spelling and grammar, or admit new words into the official lexicon. Even that, though, is done in a very deliberate way. In Russia, Lyudmila Putina nixed a proposed set of spelling reforms pretty recently.

This sort of thing is unfamiliar to us, because our government doesn't love us, nor does it see our language or our culture as anything other than an impediment to its own self-enrichment.

What a strange way people are using "university " now.

I thought that was only an Indian thing.

I understand that part, but the verb of that sentence is “spending.”

Not the damn season! Get off my summer lawn!

Of all the things in life to worry about, this is not one of them.

There are instances where 'gifting' and 'giving' are different and require different words to distinguish them.

Something like a "Corporate Gifting" program where bulk items can be purchased as gifts to employees vs a "Corporate Giving" program where charitable donations are made.

I will say that the word 'gifting' is used probably far more often than necessary and in many cases where 'giving' would do the trick.

This is all well and good when you have a controlling authority.

For how many countries in the world is Russian the predominant language? Not many, and they are all concentrated within close proximity to Russia.

Who would be the prevailing authority for English? The UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.?

All those countries speak different forms of English and they are not going to agree to a common standard.

Even in England, the language today is so far removed from where it was only 300 years ago.

There is no point in worrying about stuff like this.

Then I guess it's unfortunate that reading and responding to this thread is apparently compulsory.
