I would appreciate a bottle of jack Daniels and a box of magnum condoms.

Alcohol seems like a good gift, it’s a consumable, so has no memorable value since it will be consumed and tossed.

Since you are friends with the wife, ask her. If she is ok with it and doesn’t react poorly, do it. If you don’t feel right asking her, that tells you that you shouldn’t be giving him a gift.

I was thinking that but what if she says “it’s fine” and doesn’t really mean it.

You've already received several stellar recommendations from me. If you're really interested in giving a gift to your friend and his wife, get them a book or a Christmas ornament. It's that simple.

Thank you for the recommendation. I know him pretty well and don’t think he’d actually appreciate that.

How many fricking times are you going to say this?

If you know him and his wife so well, just take them out to dinner

Correctamundo. That side of "Good-Bye Yellow Brick Road" is one of my favorite sides of an album by an artist not named "The Beatles" of "Warren Zevon".

I already know what he likes...we drink together often. I think it would be odd to ask her.

Why the frick would it be odd? My SO’s best friend since childhood asked me what liquor to get him recently. Didn’t think twice about it.

Why are you making this so complicated and knocking everything people recommend to you? Exactly what magical answer are you expecting here?

It’s gameday FFS.

Look I know you have complete hate for me, although you don’t even know me. So if you don’t like my question just butt out.

Just get a nice bottle of wine and give it to both of them. Say I appreciate the time you and your husband have spent helping me out during this tough time, help with project, whatever they did for you . Give it to them when they are both there. It’s easy, be normal.

She doesn’t drink at all...and all I’ve ever seen him drink is scotch. I don’t think this would help.

You need to be a bit more specific.
