Yep
Opening the front door and having two police officers there to tell you that your wife had died.
I'm sure there are things than feel worse than that but I don't want to find out.

At least they called you back. I’ve definitely gone on multiple interviews and never heard back. Not even a reply to my thank you for interviewing me email.

ever got cheated on?
No, but have been dumped. Feels about the same.
No it doesn’t ?
I meant not getting this job felt about the same as getting dumped.

know I was completely qualified for the job. My guess is they had someone else that was possibly better qualified or asked for less. Or both.
I would chalk it up as a compliment that you stood out over dozens of others to make the final 2-3.
(Insert sorry I took your job joke here)

did a car wash of phone, on-site local, and corporate HQ interviews for a job earlier this year. All told it was multiple days of my time and prep. Responses from the interviews was favorable. I was one of two candidates.
Then I got a form email from HR that I wasn’t selected and “best of luck in your future endeavors.”
Had one that after 3 rounds of phone, did a 5 hour in person round with 3 people. On 24 hours notice, mid week.
Later found out 2 internal candidates and me. Put a real sour taste in my mouth that they’d pull me out of a half day of work like that.
Followed up a couple times over the course of the coming month only to receive vague feedback. Then got the form email and found out from a friend that the guy who got it was the huuuuge favorite from the get go because his former dept head hated him and gave stellar reviews to push him out.
I declined the opportunity to interview again when the position cams open a few months later. Received a pretty substantial promotion shortly after.
Blessings come in many forms

Not that bad when you have a job. It’s when you’re out of work and get turned down. That’s like a kick in the nuts.

It sucks but not nearly as much as when you needed that job. So be thankful you’re in a better situation.
Just remember that hiring people is extremely difficult and they had to make a decision - maybe even the wrong one - based off interviews and snapshot glimpses of the candidates. It doesn’t mean you’re not good enough or they didn’t like you.
But yes it still sucks and just about all of us reading this thread has been there (and will be there in the future).

I don't understand companies that do this. What do you do during a 5 hr interview? And to think they are spending that much time on multiple candidates.
