Tops has essentially funded a lot of those developments around LSU. Without it the demand wouldn't be there.

Wait another UREC?
An adjunct to the main UREC.

UREC @ Nicholson is a 8,000 sq. ft. satellite fitness facility located in Canal Hall as a part of Nicholson Gateway. There are over 50 pieces of cardio and strength training equipment, dumbbell weights up to 75lbs, and a Queenax functional training system. Members will be able to sign up for our free UREC @ Nicholson Group X Classes at the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester. UREC @ Nicholson is outfitted with two gender neutral changing rooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, and over 70 day-use lockers. As a current UREC member, you are able to access this facility at no additional cost. Tiger Card is required since there are no iris scanners at this facility.

Gentrification is a beautiful thing. I wish LSU would start buying property down Highland Rd north of campus
I believe they quietly are.

Not to start this argument again, if that is the case then why are these universities in the state still “crying for more state funding.”
I will say some universities in this state are doing fine with today’s funding structure which cut direct state funding in exchange for higher tuition which came mainly from tops.
I am sorry we can’t keep tuition at x a semester forever with heavy state funding while other states charge insanely more.
Also, I know this sounds stupid but why with a university with LSU’s resources allow its library flood and leak for so many years while building other grandiose buildings first.

Let the gentrification begin

If only it would infuse development/gentrication on the other side of the campus gates from there.
Just adding more section 8

Need to tear down tigerland now and purge all the section 8 leeches. Revitalize and gentrify the area.
Tigerland is on other side, leave that shite hole and keep fixing up the area between LSU and downtown. Never understood the allure of moving out the other way down Nicholson and Burbank.

It looks nice, but what college student has $7,000 a semester for rent?
Anyone that wants it can get it through a loan. Pretty sweet racket if you can get in on it.

Baton Rouge General Express Care and The Simple Greek Restaurant to Open in LSU’s Nicholson Gateway
![]()
LSU announced today that The Simple Greek restaurant and a Baton Rouge General Express Care clinic will fill two retail spaces in the university’s new Nicholson Gateway Development, the newly opened mixed-use development on a 28-acre site of the Nicholson Drive Corridor, between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive.
The two tenants join anchor retailer Matherne’s Market, fast food restaurant Wendy’s, coffee café Starbucks, apparel store Private Stock and quick-service eatery Frutta Bowls in the roughly 50,000-square-foot retail component of Nicholson Gateway.

Middleton is scheduled to be demolished soon.

The project was not funded by the state. It was funded by a private developer. They will profit each year, pay themselves back and then begin making money.
I'm guessing LSU rents the land, and gets the buildings in time.

well a 2B/2B was $12k for the whole year. That's %500/mth, and all utilities are included, and you don't really need a car living that close.
Some parents are already used to paying $8-12k/yr just for school. I know when i went to LSU 20 years ago, my dad just gave me $500/month, and I paid my $287.50 for rent and the rest was for me, and that was cheaper than him sending me to high school and feeding me at home. I had a student job to supplement that $200/month i had to live on.

That isn't bad AT ALL. I'd call that very affordable.
I paid more than that in Oxford, MS a decade ago.
