No, I get it.
.

Air-cooled require a lot more maintenance, much shorter service intervals for oil/ air filter changes.

They are also more prone to hot-start issues so do your services at or early morning when ambient temps are lower.

Get your model number/engine size and look up part numbers for the air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, fuse, and engine oil type/quantity.

Call around to local generator maintenance places and see if you can buy a set or two of everything so you can have an oil change kit. I have enough supplies to do three oil changes. I also have a spark plug gap tool and anti seize in my maintenance kit.

The maintenance schedule is to change the oil every 200 hours of runtime (approx every 8 days.)

Exercise it now and make sure it starts and runs. If you know what you are doing (and you don't mind resetting clocks) kill the power to your house (main breaker) and see if the generator senses the power failure, starts, and transfers over the house to generator. After running a few minutes, restore power and make sure the transfer gear switches back to commercial power. Be careful with your central A/C system. There should be a delay so it doesn't try to start up an already pressurized system. Not having a startup delay can damage your A/C system. My system throws a fit swapping from generator to commercial, so be ready to kill your A/C if it acts funny or makes weird noses.

I also have replacement high temperature sensors. A fence was installed near the exhaust, so the hot air cycles back to the intake and overheats the generator if I am not home to open the fence while running. If you have anything that can restrict airflow, you may want to buy a sensor while you are shopping for the other stuff.

Just leave it alone - cheaper to go to friends house that knows what he's doing

Get an extra quart of oil and it currently has the proper oil level. Be sure the air filter is clean. If propane, be sure you have enough for a week.

This should be all you need to do

HMC Generators in Dutchtown. I was there today to drop off plans for a new build. They have everything you need - oil, filters, etc. I have an maintenance contract with them for the generator at our current home and it is worth every penny. They are super helpful and will answer all of your questions.

You supposed to change the oil on them things a lot more often than you realize. So get enough oil for at least 2-3 oil changes. It won't go bad.

For my portable generator after Ida I changed the oil every other day. I just pulled it out the shed and ran it. Started up 2nd crank. I also plugged jn a skill saw and load tested it.

I would look into installing some sort of outdoor/weatherproof fan. Just my 2¢. Everything else you said was solid

The plan is to remove a section of fence and install louvers to allow airflow.

Best advice yet. I get made fun of for paying $40/month to have mine monitored and serviced but I never think about it. They monitor it and service it when needed. Only thing not included is the battery replacement.

Yes I have a 22kw Generac and capacity is 1.9 Quarts. There is a warning about overfilling which is why they tell you to check it and if low, put in a capful at a time.
