Does bringing it in detailed give you any chance of getting more for the car on trade-in or are dealers pretty locked in on value based on their own criteria that isn't very flexible?

Not unless KBB started asking if it were clean or dirty.

Dirt hides the scratches.

I wanted 14 for my wife's Grand Cherokee, spent $150 bucks getting it detailed- the dealer (a friend of mine) said he felt we would get a little more because of the condition.

Their offer was $18k. So yeah, I believe presentation makes a difference.

If you have scratches that can be buffed out, sure. Otherwise, just wash it and wipe down the interior because the dealer is gonna nitpick every little thing like he is gonna fix it

I've always been told that dealerships always lowball the clean, detailed cars because they know you're there for only reason - to trade it in and you wouldn't have done that unless you want it done now, or very soon.
