Is it just me that thinks it’s really weird to bring in a famous retired athlete or celebrity to motivate or speak about leadership in the corporate world?

I was at a professional seminar/workshop recently where Bret Farve was the main presenter on leadership. I love Bret, but keep in mind these are all 8-5, butts in seats, engineers/accountants/compliance type business guys. Who says, “yea, let’s pay a shite ton of money to this old ball player to stand up there half shaven in his wranglers and t-shirt to talk to these guys about how to be leaders in the workplace.” That’s literally what he was wearing. Also, why does everyone who sits behind a desk have to be some great leader????

Recently JJ Watt gave the commencement speech at UW. Again, I love Watt, but when they asked to review his speech...he didn’t realize he had to actually put something on paper. He was just going to get up there and wing it. His response, “I never graduated from college so I don’t know about these things.”

I guess I find it a little embarrassing, but someone out there pays a lot of money to make these events happen and I don’t understand it.

Sorry for the cool story, bro.

Yeah, I've never understood this either. Why can't someone just be an excellent worker who gets their shite done without causing any issues?

You underestimate the level of fandom in America today. People these days would sacrifice their oldest child to get a selfie with JJ Watt's left nut.

ETA: It's pretty pathetic.

I dated a girl and she couldn’t believe they hired athletes to do this. Her mind was blown when she found out Lou Holtz was one of the highest paid. I had to find google proof of this during one conversation.

I agree with you.

Just wait until the time comes when it will be considered Fascist to have anybody but some SJW Leftist as your leadership speaker. Then you'll have to hear about how Che Guevara, Nat Turner and Chairman Mao were great leaders.

So, count you blessings, Comrade, it could be worse.

One of my dad's coworkers was actually post-NFL Browning Nagle.

Not that this has much to do with the topic but somewhat interesting.

A good friend of mine worked in the public speaking business for decades. He was on more than a few panels with Lou Holtz, knew him pretty well. Once told me that Lou was absolutely miserable to host staff folks.
