Till now, have had no luck getting an internship in software: rarely get any responses, and the process seems pretty competitive. Should I worry, and any suggestions on the next steps?

You in Monroe? That's probably your problem. A couple of universities in the area and not that much software development.

Name checks out. They can sense your dark cloud. Do some shrooms, open your mind, become happy, try again.

No, enjoy college. You have the rest of your life to be professional. You only get 4-6 years to dick around.

We have an intern. I had a long, vivid dream where I had an affair with her, until it was discovered and I was disgraced and abandoned to wander around the ghetto with a leg injury. So be careful what you wish for.

Then did you have to go build a go kart with your ex-landlord?

What school?

In general, there aren't as many sophomore year internships as there are jr year internships. If you don't manage to snag one, work on a personal project related to your major. Make it meaningful and impactful.

You can add this project to your resume as your own internship and will be able to use it for future applications as evidence of your work ethic, intelligence, skills etc.

Apply to as many as you can. Difficult to land a job starting out without one because there's nothing for hiring managers to go off of other than your GPA. Apply all over the country as many companies will pay for room and board. Have some fun away from home for a summer.

Have you exhausted all options? With all the coding jobs and economy I'm sure you can talk one of the smaller local places into letting you work for below market value.

Heck, there are places out there that build computers, maybe check them out.

Rather than posting here, you should be heading to Austin for SXSW. Hang out in the bars and talk with the professionals that already do what you want to do.

Not sure what that means. Anything on campus like with IT or the media center?
