quote:As has already been discussed ITT, ICEs are only about 30% efficient tops, so we only need to replace about a quarter to a third that much. Let's call it 4 billion kwh to be generous, times 365 and we get 1.46 trillion kwh to charge EVs. That's roughly a 36% increase over our other electricity consumption. It will take several decades to achieve that adoption, so I think we can manage a 1% increase per year.
Convert 369 million gallons into KWH, and you begin to see what it has to replace every day. Its a lot, about 1.23 x 10^10 Kilowatt Hours per day.

Wait what? Between the motors and the batteries, that is a tot of 78% efficiency of energy put into it being put to use.
A ICE car is lucky to pass 40%
Only the oil baws on the OT can turn doubling the energetic efficiency as a critical failure for EVs.
Hell, that efficiency for ICE is so poor, you get more energy burning the fossil fuels in a power plant, dealing with transmission losses in the line.
But yes, that’s “different.” Because we want it to be.

I really cannot make up something that stupid.

We don’t wish they fail a-hole. They aren’t saving anything. To get the batteries you have to mine the lithium and nickel which pays Russia and China since our tree hugging dipshits in DC won’t let’s us do that in the States. Then you pay out the arse for a vehicle that get you 300 miles before you need to charge it 6 to 8 hours. Lastly that electricity isn’t coming from nuclear. It may partially come from oh so inefficient solar or wind but more likely comes from coal! So all this pushing EVs is glorified virtue signaling that only a fricking moron can get behind!
