It really doesn't matter if the Sheriff thinks the department did the "right thing" and would do the "same thing over again".
The bottom line is they made a decision to do a no-knock raid and an innocent child was severely maimed and injured in the process. Regardless if it was the right or wrong thing, they should make this right. Children shouldn't be viewed as simply collateral damage.

I don't think people understand that rural Sheriff's offices and police departments always have a good chance of being full of idiots like the TPOS chief running his mouth here. They're full blown fiefdoms that put up an iron curtain when questioned.
Police in bigger cities and suburbia with higher tax bases are more trustworthy, professional and accountable.

It is interesting that not all the information is in this story. The family stayed in this home knowing the person who the warrant was for was dealing drugs out of the home. The family with the toddler knowingly stayed there with the drug deals and it has been stated in several other news articles they tried to keep the baby in another room when the deals went down. The family was planning on leaving the next couple days because of this. It is awful what happened to the boy and I don't wish it upon anyone but the family knew where they were staying and the laws that were being broken. If anything, the family should be charged with child endangerment as they put themselves in this situation.
The family is certainly lacking in the smarts department, but no knock warrants are still complete horseshite.

And should be banned except for very unusual circumstances where a known violent criminal is at play here and even then, it should require the approval of at least three judges to actually get a no knock warrant.
