If I sound insensitive so be it...it's time to move on and quit reaching back to the slavery issue. It does the black race no good. Slavery was wrong and America had more than atoned for it. Now move on... No one alive today has been involved in slavery. Heck, the most recent oldest American to die was 40 years removed from slavery.
The only people continuing to bring it up are the race baiters that use it to enrich themselves !

Georgetown doing this and widespread reparations are still quite a few steps away.
I don't think it's that many logical steps away, tbh. I also don't think that reparations will ever occur on a general basis (which they shouldn't. Like I said, I earn my paper).
Mainly I just think it sets a bad precedent.

Insensitive, no, but ignorant is more appropriate.
Reparations to all African Americans are ridiculous, and reparations from all Americans to any race are equally ridiculous. Neither of those apply in this case with Georgetown.
Furthermore, it is laughable that people think shite is just hunky dory since slavery ended. Civil rights took another 100 years to get on the same level, and we're only 50 years removed from that period. I greatly appreciate and respect someone who refuses to use any of that as a crutch and makes the most out of themselves, but it is absurd that people think the effects from slavery and civil rights don't still weigh on the descendants of those who were directly impacted.

This sounds like a noble effort. If a person is proven to be a descendant of the sold slaves then that person deserves to be considered a part of the family.
It's not dissimilar from acknowledging that this country would never have progressed to its current status without the slaves. "Send them back to Africa" is a cruel statement to make when they descended from the labor pool that built this country. I don't believe in reparations but I do believe that we should make an attempt to provide fairness where it was once denied.

Those descendants should be thankful they aren't starving in a mud hut in some shithole village. If they take this "opportunity ", it just proves all they want is a handout.

You've got a fricked up view of the world buddy.

No, actually my view is perfectly clear! Any descendant of a slave should be THANKFUL they are in this country! Sure slavery sucked, but the descendants of slaves have it made now!

I think the Cajuns got an apology from France for getting run out of Nova Scotia but no money changed hands.

We're all blessed to be Americans, but the view that these descendants should be thankful their ancestors were slaves is a pretty ignorant statement.

Let's keep talking about it... That will make it go fall from front of mind.
Every so often someone gets a wild hair and says, in what can only be an effort to unjustifiably bring attention.
I am aware that those who forget history are condemned to repeat it... But I don't think that this is one of those things.
