Model: 2021 Briggs and Stratton 6500 watt storm responder.

Use: Used once during Ida in 2021 for a few days. Ran great then had an initial issue on startup. Choked it out the box but wouldn’t start. Ended up waiting a couple hours then boom fired right up.

Issue Now: I took it out for the Hurricane this past year, and tuned it up. Changed the oil, drained the gas from 2021. Now I’m trying to crank it up to no avail. Bought some carb cleaner to try to jump it. It fires up after pulling with the carb cleaner, but quickly sputters out. Not sure where to go from here. Been watching some YouTube videos but no luck. Any advice?

Have you put gasoline in it?

Ethanol build up in your carburetor. Pull the carb off and clean it out. Next time you want to shut the generator off, turn the valve off from the tank so it burns all the fuel out the carb

Carburetor is likely gummed up with that old gas… Carburetor needs to be pulled apart and all orifices cleaned with carb cleaner and blown out with compressed air.

Put a new carburetor on it. Just shooting carb cleaner into the bowl isn’t going to get out the residue from 4 year old gas.

This. For a part this cheap, it’s a lot easier to just replace rather than disassemble/clean/reassemble.

Just be careful where you get them from. I’ve pulled my hair out trying to tune cheap replacements from amazon.

If you didn’t clean the carb, you need to. If you have never done it before, it will take 2-3 hours.

But it can be done, and acceptance is the best path to peace of mind. Researching TD is what finally made me realize I needed to put down my phone and get my tools out.

It’s not like it’s rocket science. No special tools are needed.

Gunked carb

It takes 10 seconds to drain a carb after use. Make it a habit
